12 Facebook Business Page Tips
1. Add call to action button
It’s a great way for marketers to drive more traffic to their websites, or to get more eyeballs on the Facebook content they want to promote. This is a great way for marketers to drive traffic from their Facebook Business Page back to their website. Check out how CNN News uses the “Use App” button in this way, to make it easier for viewers to make Conversion.
To add a call-to-action to your Page, click the blue “Add a Button” box.
2. Find your audience – go to them
Log in and head over to your Business Page Insights. Look for the “People” link in the lower left-hand corner. You’ll quickly get a breakdown of audience location, gender, and age ranges. You can also go into your advertising account under the Business Manager to access more audience insights.
The “Lifestyle” section is especially helpful.
Age, location, and gender are only so helpful. You don’t get any actionable insight.
Lifestyle can start to piece together the clues. It will tell you how these people self-identify.
That means you’ll be able to start making educated guesses about their likes and dislikes.
Digging even further, you’ll be able to pull up job title information. This will give you an idea of their education and even household income.
3. Add a link to your website and share your link on social media
Here are 7! Why so many?
Facebook experts agree that your Fan Page should vary its postings to include photos, videos, text-only updates, and links.
And if you like to drive Facebook fans to your website – now you can vary the way you post those links! See which get the most clicks.
‘Cause if you don’t post links, you won’t get clicks.
4. Create a custom URL
When setting up your Facebook business page, you might notice the URL is a bit, well, ugly. It’s also long and, therefore, difficult for people to remember. The initial URL that Facebook gives to a business page will include a variety of numbers after the www.facebook.com/ that have nothing to do with your business. A long URL like that makes it difficult to tell people how to find your Facebook page and it will look bad on your business card or other marketing materials. Luckily, Facebook does have an option for those of us seeking a shorter, cleaner version of the link: a custom Facebook business page URL (a.k.a. a ‘vanity’ URL or, as Facebook calls it, a “username”).
5. Post interactive media – ask questions and engage in discussion
Throughout my marketing career, I have run a lot of experiments and tests on the various personal and professional social media channels I manage.
Of all the different types of posts I make, questions generate the most comments and likes.
Not only will asking questions help you increase engagement through more likes and comments, but questions start a conversation with your audience, allowing you to get to know one another on a deeper level.
6. Add a well-designed cover photo
Next, you’ll need to pick an attractive cover photo. Since your cover photo takes up the most real estate above the fold on your Facebook Page, make sure you’re choosing one that’s high-quality and engaging to your visitors, like this one from MYOB’s Facebook Page:
7. Enable reviews
Having great reviews on Facebook will instantly increase your chances of getting new customers because online reviews build trust. Even if you have a couple of poor reviews sprinkled in—the statistic still stands that 84% of people trust online reviews just as much as a personal recommendation. That’s a pretty powerful statistic! Even more, if your business is able to achieve a Facebook star-rating of 3 stars or more, you will be much better off winning business from your competitors.
8. Create video playlists and post videos for viewers to watch and engage with
Over 8 billion videos or 100 million hours of videos are watched on Facebook every day.
These stats were reported early last year so imagine how much larger the numbers are today as Facebook continued to grow and double down on videos.
Now seems to be the perfect time to take a closer look at Facebook video and how to use videos to engage more fans on the platform.
9. Encourage sharing – host contests or promotions
Are you looking for a new way to spice up your marketing strategy?
Your current promotions may be effective for now, but you need to mix things up. After a while, using the same marketing tactics over and over again gets stale.
Promotional contests are one of my favorite ways to keep an audience engaged.
This is a great opportunity for you to increase brand awareness and even build hype for a new product launch.
10. Use strategic keywords
Keyword optimization is very critical for social media marketing. You can optimize your Facebook business page for SEO by placing Keywords in strategic areas of your page. This will make your page to appear top in search results hence improving your findability. Some of the essential areas to use keywords include; your Title page, URL, and the ‘About Us’ section.
Just like in other SEO practices, your page title will act as your Meta Title Tag and your description on the ‘About Us’ will be the Meta description tag. Ensure you do not overuse the Keywords and keep your description short and relevant. You can use up to 14 characters in your description.
You can also attract more relevant users to your page by using keywords in your Facebook content. More social media users are likely to find and engage with your content when the search for these keywords.
11. Choose a proper page name for the search
The title of your Facebook business page is the first thing to consider when optimizing your Facebook page for SEO. You should choose a name that represents your business. This could be the name of your business and the service you offer. Selecting a generic name with terms like Sports or Entertainment will only serve to hurt your efforts of reaching your potential customers. First, because when customers search on Facebook, they find so many pages with similar names which confuse them. Second, lately, Facebook has been disabling updates for pages with generic names which makes it difficult for your business page to reach your customers.
Also, the name should contain a few keywords that represent your business. You should avoid keyword stuffing your business Facebook page name since the first word in your page title is the most important in the eyes of Google. A page name with too many keywords also appears spammy making users to disable its updates.
12. Populate ABOUT info
Did you know Facebook allows you to add a short Bio to your profile to help users learn more about you? The Bio can contain up to 101 characters, and it will always be public. Our guide will show you how to add a Bio to your profile from within the Facebook mobile application.
